Shared SSL IP
What is a shared SSL IP? How one can install an SSL certificate on such an IP?
If you'd like to protect the info which visitors submit on your site, you need an SSL certificate. The abbreviation refers to Secure Sockets Layer and that's a protocol used to encode any info exchanged between an Internet site and its users as to ensure that even if an unauthorized individual intercepts any info, they shall not be able to read or use it in any way. The existing level of encryption makes it literally impossible to decrypt the real content, thus if you have a login form of some sort or you offer services and products online and clients submit credit card info, using an SSL certificate shall be a guarantee that the data is secure. Usually a dedicated IP address is needed to install an SSL, which will increase the cost to maintain your website. The additional cost may matter in case you manage a small web shop, a non-profit organization or any other entity which does not make a big profit, so to save you the cash, our cloud website hosting platform supports installing an SSL certificate on a shared server IP address, not a dedicated one.
Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting
A shared IP could be used for any SSL certificate, no matter if you buy it from us or from another dealer and regardless of the shared hosting service that you have on our end. If you get the SSL from us, you shall come across this option on the certificate order page within your hosting Control Panel where you can also take full advantage of the 1-click automatic configuration option which we offer. If the latter is selected in the SSL order wizard, our system will install and set up everything for you through the specifically configured server shared IP, thus once you acquire and approve the SSL, there won't be anything else to do on your end. You can save the funds you'll otherwise need to pay for a dedicated IP and the SSL will function in the same exact way, so any info the site visitors submit shall be encoded. The one difference is that if you type the shared IP address instead of your domain inside an Internet browser, the site shall not display.
